Lets talk about Gucci’s new prefall 17 Campaign

Lets talk about Gucci’s new prefall 17 Campaign

Unlike legendary fashion houses smaller brands have always embraced models of all types, genders, colours and shapes. For years people have complained about the lack of diversity in that fashion industry especially when it comes to luxury fashion houses, I mean we always see the occasional black model on the runway or in a few campaigns every once in a while but that just isn’t enough, but feel as though this year may be the year that things finally change across the industry and Gucci are leading the way!

Usually when fashion houses release their new campaigns they go for big names in the modelling industry or well known Hollywood actors and actresses, however Gucci completely changed the game this week when they teased us with their new prefall 17 campaign where they introduced a whole new cast of newcomers. The Italian house posted nine audition videos featuring potential models introducing themselves and being asked questions such as what does soul mean to you, what is your spirit animal and at the end of the video they were asked to dance to an old school song. The auditions raised so many questions for me such as; what is the concept behind Gucci’s new campaign?, what made them decide to do this and how is their campaign going to turn out? All the models so far have been black which is definitely going to give the brand a lot of positive publicity, this is a big diversity push in the right direction from one of the most influential luxury bands in the world and after years of trying to promote change people are finally taking action! Gucci is sending a bold message to the entire world that represents the importance of inclusiveness in fashion and the urgent need to tell more complex stories and show that anyone regardless of their background can be apart of the conversation and story in fashion.

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2017 campaign #DGmilennials

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2017 campaign #DGmilennials

Can I just express how much I love Dolce & Gabbana right now! The fashion house recently released their new campaign on instagram last week introducing a whole lot of famous DNA in their new menswear campaign, including the sons of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Pamela Andersn and Tommy Lee, Jude Law and Sadie frost and Daniel Day – Lewis. The womens campaign included up and coming teen models Thylane Blondeau and Sonia Ben Ammar along side the phenomenon Zendaya.

The shoot took place over several days in Capri. What I love the most is that this shoot represents the society that we live in today, it’s so young and fresh and revolves around what most people can’t live without – social media! Who would have ever thought that social media would be taking over the world in such a big way in such a short space of time? The shoot is so free, vibrant and fun!

I believe that what Dolce and Gabbana are doing is amazing and relates to the world that we live in tiday and this campaign is sure to attract teenagers and young people across the world because it involves so many young social media personalities who are loved by so many people around the world. They have truly thought outside of the box, they took a chance and I honestly believe that it payed off and that this campaign will be extremely successful. As a teenager myself who has grown up around social media I can say that Dolce & Gabbana are ahead of so many of their competitors right now, they saw their chance and took advantage of the resources and the people around in order to create something so amazingly creative and they OWNED IT. Social Media models and influencer’s are the next generation and not very long from now they are going to be taking over the fashion industry because in a world like today’s you can no longer just be a model with a  pretty face but you also need to have a following!

What I would buy myself for Christmas if I won the Lottery; Gucci Wishlist

What I would buy myself for Christmas if I won the Lottery; Gucci Wishlist

Most people who know me, know that one of my all time favourite luxury brands is Gucci. I highly doubt that I am the only person who believes that Gucci were one of the major brands that ruled the year of 2016, their newly famous dionysus bag was on every major fashion bloggers shoulder! I truly feel that they set the bar high this year with many their new releases, this year Gucci managed to do something that most brands struggle with, they were able to revamp themselves to cater to a new and younger audience but still stay true to themselves as a brand and didn’t forget what they represented in the process, which I think is amazing. I honestly fell in love with almost every single product that Gucci released this year, everything was so unique and different and practically never done before, I literally wanted to buy everything!

I am personally a bag and shoe kind of girl but I tried to include a range of products, so here are a few things that I would love to receive this Christmas from my Gucci wishlist;

Puffer Jackets

Puffer Jackets

Puffer jackets remind me of my favorite era in fashion which is the 90s. This was a time when people were beginning to break the rules and take more risks with fashion, an era where hideous trends of the 70s and 80s died out and new ones were born. I believe that the 90s were the fashion worlds most inventive and urban years, where young people were more expressive and vocal than ever before and were not afraid to show this through their personal style. The 90s built a foundation for fashion & style today as items such as high waisted mom jeans, over sized jackets and chokers are back and are as popular if not more than they were in the 90s.

I have to admit that when the puffer jacket first resurfaced I was a little timid towards the idea because personally I have never really been a fan of them until now, obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this blog post. The way that people have been styling/ wearing these and the way that designers have totally and utterly reinvented them completely changed my mind and made me adore them.

The 3 trendiest trends of 2016

The 3 trendiest trends of 2016

2016 for one has been a very eventful year for the majority of us and by no surprise the fashion industry has dominated the year with the start of new trends and old ones coming back. In this blog post I have enlisted 3 of the most influential trends that I believe dominated the year of 2016.

Chokers

I never thought that we’d ever see chokers as popular as they were in the 90’s however 2016 proved me wrong as everyone this year was wearing them from your favorite celebrities to brands like zara and missguided incorporating them into their designs. I think most of us can agree when I say that we all forgot that other necklaces besides chokers existed this year because they seemed to be the only thing that people wore but what can I say they go with EVERYTHING.

Band Tees

Band tees or merch tees as some people like to refer to them have been around for basically forever but they hit their peak this year especially during the summer and festival months. This year almost everybody who is anybody was wearing Kanye West’s Pablo tour merchandise, people were adding their own twists to band tees to add that bit of extra grunge by ripping or distressing them. One of my favorite looks with this trend was when Kendall Jenner walked out with a triangular cut Metallica tshirt earlier this year – if anybody knows how make a boring outfit absolutely killer, its her.

Athleisure

Athleisure offered comfort style and confidence in the year 2016. This was the year that people were, i’d like to say more chilled and laid back which is why althleisure wear became so popular amongst fashionistas. Whether your going to the gym or on shopping spree who knows, i guess it’s a mystery that people will never solve. Gigi Hadid aka the model of the year helped leggings, sports bras and all of its sportswear affiliates, become the normal for everyday in 2016.

Friends in Vogue by Mario Testino

Friends in Vogue by Mario Testino

Kendall Jenner, Tyler The Creator and members of the Odd Future family were recently featured in an all but colourful spread for Vogue’s first official issue for January 2017. This shoot was shot by none other than the Peruvian photo phenom, Mario Testino. OFF-WHITE, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Ralph Lauren, Maison Margiela, Versace, Marc Jacobs and of course, Golf Wang were just a few of the amazingly optimistic clothing brands mentioned in this months Us issue. This has to be one of my all time favorite shoots ever featured in Vogue, it’s vibrant, its fun, its loud, its joyful and just the thing that we need to liven up the last few weeks of 2016. The thing that I love most about this shoot is the chemistry between everyone with the each other and the camera, nothing is forced you can truly tell that everybody is enjoying themselves and having fun. Everything just naturally comes together to create this master piece of a shoot!

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016

I know the Victoria’s Secret show was just less than a week ago and I’m a little late to the bandwagon but feel like I’ve waited an entire lifetime for this, the moment that all of us women have been waiting for!

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has to be one of the best fashion shows that the world has ever seen, it honestly never seizes to amaze me, every single year the show gets bigger and better without fail!

This year the Angels were in Paris aka the city of love and one of the most beautiful places in the entire world. Over 50 gorgeous models including; Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Jasmine Tookes, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell and Taylor Hill  hit the runway looking none the less fabulous and practically perfect, i’m not going to lie seeing those models strut down that runway made me want to start working out more, I mean did u see them, they were absolute perfection!

This year the three-million-dollar crystal-encrusted fantasy bra designed by Eddie Borgowas was worn by Jasmine Tookes who officially became an angel a year ago. The bra was made using 9000 precious stones and took 700 hours to create and weighed more than 450 carats. Talk about a bra.

If your just as obsessed with Victoria’s secret as me then you have come to the right place, here are some pictures of my top favourite looks from the show;

This year Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner received their angel wings and the media had a frenzy – people were debating as to whether they had earned the right to wear them after only walking the show once. But what I think people need to understand is that we live in a new age where we are ruled by social media and models like Gigi and Kendall should have no shame in taking advantage. They have both worked extremely hard to be where they are today and should not have to deal with the criticism of a jealous and envious world like today’s. We should learn to support each other. We should spread love not hate.

Are embellished shoes and boots the new thing?

Are embellished shoes and boots the new thing?

Lately designers have been looking to museums and galleries for inspiration explaining why their latest designs are full of historical references. Recently everything from jeans, skirts, jackets and shoes have been covered in embroidery – winter has never looked so stylish!

Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi is influenced by what she calls the “hard lushness” of antique military regalia, from embroidered insignia to fur plumes and multibuckled, over-the-knee boots. “Watching War and Peace, I was drawn to the balance between the beautiful toughness of the military uniforms and the feminine draping of the women’s costumes. I love that tension and contrast. I call it sensual friction – velvet is sensual but also has military echoes.”

Christian Louboutin visits museums as part of his “creative mood gathering. I don’t immediately translate what I see but keep it with me so it can appear down the line in a different way.”

Gucci’s Alessandro Michele matches his eclectic, pearl-strewn Renaissance-meets-1980s dresses with art deco-influenced, suede and roccia snakeskin, an aesthetic he evolved last season and which, like most of his ideas, is proving influential. Nicholas Kirkwood has long used pearls hollowed into a high heel as a signature and this season makes them a bold statement, running a graduated row of aniseed ball‑sized ones around the heel of his loafers, the perfect balance of glamour and toughness. His inspiration is presumably early 20th century, rather than 16th, as the range is named Casati, after the pearl-wearing Marchesa.

“I have never felt so inspired as in St Petersburg,” says Edgardo Osorio, co-founder of Aquazzura, whose supremely rich and ornate autumn collection is titled From Russia With Love. “I wanted to convey the atmosphere of romance and grandeur without being too literal. Shoes have to be for life today so I picked wonderful details from the Hermitage – fabrics on furniture and clerical robes, Imperial jewelleryand military insignia, the colours of stones and subtle furs, marbles and mosaics.”

From Valentino’s couture celebration of Shakespeare’s anniversary, complete with ruffs, doublets and high-waisted gowns, to grandly braid-embroidered tailored military jackets at Roberto Cavalli and Andrew Gn , a strong vein of historic costume runs through this winter’s style. Yet the season’s ornamented shoes and boots are easier to meld into contemporary wardrobes; they signal fashion savoir-faire but will remain trophy items when the current yen for historicism fades.
