Body image is something that affects everyone and I feel as though we only ever hear about the way that it affects young girls and women but what about men and young boys?
At some points in our lives we all struggle with body confidence and we are our worst critics, we see faults in ourselves that other people don’t see and it is truly damaging to our mental health. My motto has always been and will forever be ; ‘you need to learn to love yourself before you can allow yourself to love another person because at the end of the day if you can’t love yourself who will?’.
Of course as a teenager I still have a lot to learn about life but I find it saddening to see people around me tear themselves apart trying to be the ‘perfect girl’ that they see in magazines and the instagram models that we all envy to be. As much as I love this industry it does have it’s faults, one of them being that it fails to represent women of all shapes and sizes. Last year I watched one of my closest friends go through something that I would never wish upon anyone and it’s all because of this idea that society has put into our heads – if we’re not skinny we’re not beautiful.
I am very lucky in the sense that I have learned to love myself and although I have my days, I am happy with the way that I look and would not change a thing about myself. However this is not the case for many people out there, there are young girls as young as the age of 10 that are starving themselves and over exercising. We may not realise it but the images that we see online and around us are extremely damaging to our mental health. Social media has opened so many doors but social it makes it hard for people to remain true to themselves.
Talking to Yahoo Beauty, Keke Palmer said that social media and the internet in general has become so judgmental that people will either put themselves down before a troll gets the chance to comment, or they conform to what they are being told is the way they should look. And she believes the Kardashians are a big part of the problem.
I say f*** society and learn to love yourself and your insecurities because in the long run it will make your life so much happier, don’t listen to the people that try to put you down because they obviously have insecurities of their own or they’re simply jealous. Love yourself and don’t stop loving yourself!
One of the very first ever blog posts that I wrote was on whether drug store companies in the UK are racist and I feel as though a lot has changed in the last year and a half so I thought that I would do an updated blog post and evaluate on just how much things have changed within the beauty spectrum.
If you haven’t read it check it out here – https://justivis.wordpress.com/2016/01/02/are-drug-store-companies-in-the-uk-racist/
In the past couple of months numerous beauty brands have released new formulas of foundation in a number of different shades and I have never been so happy. It now means that I can officially retract my statement on the idea the drugstore brands are racist. If you have not tried lo’real true match foundation you are missing out, it is the most amazing drugstore foundation out there and it’s only £10! Nyx and maybeline also have a great range of foundations at affordable prices. Now that there are a range of shades available for women of colour like myself, it saves me having to spend £28 or more on a foundation that will last me less than 4 months.
However, on the other hand, it is a completely different story for concealers and contour kits, as of now unless you’re purchasing the La girl pro concealer which is AMAZING by the way, concealer costs more than foundation, well for my skin tone anyway, which I believe to be incredibly ridiculous! Although a lot has changed in the last few months there is still room for improvement. In addition to this there are not a lot of contour kits in drug stores for dark skin, the only good one that is available for a reasonable price are the sleek and nyx contour kits.

Ever since I discovered my love for designer shoes Louboutin has been a favourite of mine for the longest time and I cannot wait to purchase my very first pair! Four years ago, Christian Louboutin launched his first Nude shoe Collection, a line of pumps in five different nudes and since then the brand has expanded to seven shades.
A few weeks ago, Louboutin took the collection one step further by adding two high-heel sandals; the Christeriva and the Cherrysandal. Although I mention this a lot, I am so happy to see that designer brands are embracing all skin tones, because every skin colour is beautiful. I cannot express enough how things like this help to build up the confidence of young women of colour and I am so proud to be apart of an industry that appreciates people of all colours! I love both of the sandals, I think they’re beautiful and are perfect for the summer and will go with every single thing in your wardrobe!

Lately dramatic sleeves have been everywhere and on everyone, they’re one of the many trends ruling the summer of 2017. You can either dress them up or dress them down, either way they look amazing!
Considering how any times I have been to South Africa with my family I think that you would find it hard to believe that I have never been to a national park, unless you count seeing crocodiles and elephants on the way to my grandmothers house. However I do plan on going to Kruger National park within the next few years as it is one of the top places to visit on my bucket list!
Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s largest and one of the worlds most famous and greatest game reserves ever! If you haven’t heard of it, you’ve been living under a rock for your entire life! Its high density of wild animals includes all of Africa’s iconic safari species – elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and zebra. It’s truly an amazing place to visit and an experience that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.
The good thing about the park is that it is open all year round. Depending on your preference and schedule you can visit the park at any time. However June to September is the best time for Wildlife viewing as although it is winter this is when the park is at it’s driest and animals meet at waterholes. From January to March it is very hot and quiet and seeing as schools are open accommodation is easy to find. In April and May it is rutting-season and you can see animals such as the impala, wildebeest and other species go head to head.
Things to Do
I have always said that fashion is a form of art and that it is something that everyone should enjoy. It’s not something that should ever be taken too seriously. And I will forever stand by that. So why is it that in a society like today’s are we still told what we should wear, who even cares anymore.
Back in 2016 Louis Vuitton changed the game when Jaden smith starred in their womenswear campaign. This was revolutionary. For the first time ever a man was featured in a womanwear campaign. Louis vuttion pushed so many limits with this campaign and it truly paid off. It was exacly what the world needed at the right time.
I feel as though we now accept women wearing men’s clothing, yet it’s still a little taboo for a man to wear women’s clothing. But why? The world has never been more accepting than it is now! Don’t be afraid to wear what u want because at the end of the day who gives a shit. As long as you’re happy and comfortable with what your wearing nothing else matters, forget the haters and those who judge you because at least you’re being you!
The world is quickly evolving and more and more people are starting to accept the idea of wearing anything that they like. Just because you carry a woman’s bag doesn’t make you want to become a woman or gay and just because you wear a suit it doesn’t make you a tomboy. From an early age we are given the perception that boys and girls can only wear certain items but as time goes on people are starting to forget this idea and let their children make up their own minds which I love!
Although we are entering a new age where we wear whatever we want we can never get rid of clothing norms because they are the basis of fashion. We need to be able to know where to shop and more importantly which fashion weeks to go to and we also have to remember that this is not everyone’s cup of tea.
