Unlike legendary fashion houses smaller brands have always embraced models of all types, genders, colours and shapes. For years people have complained about the lack of diversity in that fashion industry especially when it comes to luxury fashion houses, I mean we always see the occasional black model on the runway or in a few campaigns every once in a while but that just isn’t enough, but feel as though this year may be the year that things finally change across the industry and Gucci are leading the way!
Usually when fashion houses release their new campaigns they go for big names in the modelling industry or well known Hollywood actors and actresses, however Gucci completely changed the game this week when they teased us with their new prefall 17 campaign where they introduced a whole new cast of newcomers. The Italian house posted nine audition videos featuring potential models introducing themselves and being asked questions such as what does soul mean to you, what is your spirit animal and at the end of the video they were asked to dance to an old school song. The auditions raised so many questions for me such as; what is the concept behind Gucci’s new campaign?, what made them decide to do this and how is their campaign going to turn out? All the models so far have been black which is definitely going to give the brand a lot of positive publicity, this is a big diversity push in the right direction from one of the most influential luxury bands in the world and after years of trying to promote change people are finally taking action! Gucci is sending a bold message to the entire world that represents the importance of inclusiveness in fashion and the urgent need to tell more complex stories and show that anyone regardless of their background can be apart of the conversation and story in fashion.
Can I just express how much I love Dolce & Gabbana right now! The fashion house recently released their new campaign on instagram last week introducing a whole lot of famous DNA in their new menswear campaign, including the sons of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Pamela Andersn and Tommy Lee, Jude Law and Sadie frost and Daniel Day – Lewis. The womens campaign included up and coming teen models Thylane Blondeau and Sonia Ben Ammar along side the phenomenon Zendaya.
The shoot took place over several days in Capri. What I love the most is that this shoot represents the society that we live in today, it’s so young and fresh and revolves around what most people can’t live without – social media! Who would have ever thought that social media would be taking over the world in such a big way in such a short space of time? The shoot is so free, vibrant and fun!
I believe that what Dolce and Gabbana are doing is amazing and relates to the world that we live in tiday and this campaign is sure to attract teenagers and young people across the world because it involves so many young social media personalities who are loved by so many people around the world. They have truly thought outside of the box, they took a chance and I honestly believe that it payed off and that this campaign will be extremely successful. As a teenager myself who has grown up around social media I can say that Dolce & Gabbana are ahead of so many of their competitors right now, they saw their chance and took advantage of the resources and the people around in order to create something so amazingly creative and they OWNED IT. Social Media models and influencer’s are the next generation and not very long from now they are going to be taking over the fashion industry because in a world like today’s you can no longer just be a model with a pretty face but you also need to have a following!
I am a dreamer – I hate reality and I love to constantly picture myself living the most perfect life there is! But most importantly I love to see other people living out their dreams and pursuing their life goals. The reason that I follow so many people on Instagram is probably because I’m obsessed with accounts and people that inspire and motivate me to not only improve or change my lifestyle but to also achieve as many of my life goals as possible.
When I see other people doing well in the career that I want to pursue it makes me want to work that extra bit harder to be where I want to be in 10 years time, however my only problem is, although I don’t lack motivation, I am extremely lazy, in all honesty I could dream and fantasise all day and get nothing done. I hate hard work and that is something that I am trying to change in the new year because like most of us out there I want to be successful and happy in life and I have realised that the only way to make this happen is through hard work because nothing in life comes handed to you. I think that 2016 made me realise that if I want something then I need to go out and grab it and seek as many opportunities out there as possible because sometimes you have to knock on every single door out there until you get the opportunity that you want. This year I aim to work harder than I have ever worked before in order to get my blog where I want it to be and also to achieve my academic goals ( I’m sitting my GCSE’s this spring) so that I can one day go to an astoundingly amazing University or possibly even study overseas .
I know that most people will probably judge me for my age first rather than my blog and my ability to work as a professional blogger but I don’t think that that’s fair and this year I have been inspired by so many people to prove to the world that age is truly nothing but a number and to prove that although I may not be as old or have as much experience as everyone else in the industry I can do as much as them. I hope that some day down the line I can be an inspiration to all young people who want a career in the industry and show them that you can start living out your dreams as early as you want as long as you have faith in yourself and are willing to work for it.
Have you ever just looked at someones Instagram account and thought to yourself, I want that life, I wan to do what they’re doing – well this is how I feel about these 5 people;
First of all Happy New Year and Happy 1st Birthday to my beloved blog! I hope that 2017 is your best year yet and that you may achieve every single goal that you set yourself this year. Personally my goal for this year is to blog more and grow my blog because I love what I do and I would love to become a full time blogger in the future and run my very own luxury magazine. I love the new year because it’s a time when you can reevaluate yourself and see what you need to change to improve your lifestyle. I don’t know about you but 2016 was an okay year for me and I plan to make 2017 a year that I will never forget, filled with so many new adventures and opportunities I plan to try new things, go to new places, make new friends and just live my life to the absolute fullest whilst I’m still young, it is going to be the most amazing year of my life yet!
To kick start the new year I thought that I would give you guys some ideas on where to go for your winter vacation. If your anything like me then you HATE winter and everything that it brings with it; dark, cold and windy short days, and worst of all you can’t wear your favourite outfits without feeling like your going to freeze to death unless it’s a huge coat or some type of knitwear, not to mention it’s the peak of cold and flu season so you can’t go out as much as you would hope. The only good thing about winter are the huge coats and jackets that may or may not ruin you outfit at times. Personally I love summer, I love the weather, the outfits and most of all I love the atmosphere, everything is so happy, bright and cheerful!
If your looking for a get away as much as I am here are the places that I would recommend;
I have always wanted to go to the Bahamas, it is a coral-based archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. My favourite island has to be Paradise Island, it is home to the Atlantis Paradise Island – one of the best resorts in the entire world! Scuba diving and snorkeling sites include the massive Andros Barrier Reef, Thunderball Grotto (used in James Bond films) and the black-coral gardens off Bimini.
Meico is everything the British winter is not: light, colour, exoticism; warm and exuberant. Parties on the beach, yoga under the trees, a dip in dappled-light cenotes. The weather is wonderful in January: hot but not-too-hot, with barely any rain at all.
Amazing food, amazing wine, amazing beaches, amazing hotels and amazing scenery. January – march are the best months for exploring South Africa with so much to do you’ll never be bored.
Australia’s Gold Coast
The weather’s hot but not too hot. Food, drink, beaches, private islands… everything is big and bold and in style. It is also home to theme parks such as Dreamworld, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild.
One of the most fascinating city in the Far East, Hong Kong burns brightly on the map of the region – half Chinese metropolis, half global icon. It calls to every camera amid the skyscrapers which dot the Central district on its core island.
The glitziest of the United Arab Emirates! Known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene Dubai is a truly unique city.
The Indian Ocean’s most celebrated cluster of islands is in full of sun in January. The clear blue waters are so beautiful you will have the time of your life!
