The Return of the Bodysuit

The Return of the Bodysuit

In my humble opinion 80s, fashion was completely and utterly hideous. It was a truly dark moment for fashion. It was a decade full of the most unruly trends the world has ever seen, however, we learned from our mistakes and progressed enough that although the bodysuit is back it has evolved into a thing of beauty. It may have been inspired by the 80s but It has never been presented with such elegance!

In 2017 when it came to bodysuits it was all about luxe materials – lace, ribbon, heavy embroidery, beading and velvet etc. There was this new wave – underwear was now the new outerwear.  This was a time where bodysuits were only just on the rise, they hadn’t fully made their comeback yet, last year is where we really saw them shine! With more opulent materials available to us I don’t think bodysuits have ever been looked so flattering on women of all shapes and sizes. Unlike 2017, bodysuits are something you can wear casually now – not just something for night outs or dinner dates, more and more high street stores are selling them and I am OBSESSED!

 Damaris Evans, who has long loved the body. “They’ve been produced for years, but I think they’ve been underestimated until the recent merging of lingerie and ready-to-wear,” she says. “When crafted properly, they are phenomenally flattering and can be layered very tastefully.”

I honestly feel like I say this in EVERY SINGLE POST but I just can’t help myself. The comeback of the body suit only goes to show that fashion trends are recycled now and again, even the ones that we thought we had gotten rid of forever. The trends of the past are coming back to life as better versions of themselves, first, it was wide leg patterned trousers, ugly sneakers, mom jeans and now the bodysuit, my question is which trend is making a comeback next?

Here are some of my favourite bodysuits on the market right now from both high street and designer brands;

My most Influential in 2018

My most Influential in 2018

Is it even possible to adore people that you have never met before? There are so many people out there that inspire me every single day and today I am giving you my top 3. These individuals are a true representation of how if you can dream it you can do it. They are the reason that I work so hard when it comes to my blog because they are the product of how hard work can pay off.

Recently I have been trying to be more positive and optimistic about life and complain and worry less. I am a firm believer in the idea that a positive outreach on life results in a happier life and that’s all we want, right? If anyone knows me they know that I used to be the queen of complaining, which is such a bad thing, I learned through the secret (one of the best self-help books out there) that this was the worst thing as through complaining you’re only drawing in negative energy. So this year we’re being more grateful for everything in life and only attracting positive energy. Although sometimes we are faced with extremely difficult challenges, things do happen for a reason and how we deal with them define who we are as people. There is no point in stressing over the things that we cannot control, there’s a saying that if it won’t affect you in 5 years time, don’t waste more than 5 minutes stressing over it. We need to eliminate everything negative in our lives and the things that are stopping us from pursuing our dreams, including the people that don’t support us, even quitting your job to focus on living your dream life, it’s better to say you tried rather than always wondering what if? What’s life without a little risk? We need things and people that motivate us to do our absolute best and make sure that we lead the happiest and fullest lives possible. In 2019 we’re being more selfish!

In a new age like today, There is so much hatred and negativity especially on social media and I honestly don’t understand how people have the time and energy. I can’t even hold a grudge for more than a week so I don’t understand how can someone take time out of their day to purposely judge and hate on someone for living their life? Do they not have a life of their own? I am so incredibly grateful for all the opportunities that my blog has given me so far and I know that I say this every other month but I . promise that this is the year I get serious with my blog and the ear that I start posting regularly here and on my youtube channel. Starting a blog was literally the best thing that I ever did and something that I will never regret! It has helped me so much to grow as a person and it has given me a new perspective on life and I can only hope that one day I can become an inspiration for people out there as these influencers have been to me.

My most influential in 2018;

Virgil Abloh

Virgil Alboh is most definitely a force to be reckoned with; he’s an undefinable creative force in the industry from being a fashion designer, DJ, and music producer you’d never guess that he has a degree in civil engineering. Last year, Abloh became the first black designer to hold such a high profile position in luxury fashion as Louis Vuitton new Creative director. Virgil is a pioneer in streetwear fashion and one of the most influential people in fashion right now!!!!!!!! He doesn’t follow trends but he creates them through the stories he tells through his designs and for me he is hands down my favourite designer at this moment in time!

Conna Walker

We’ve all heard of House of CB, right? Well, this is the incredible woman behind the brand. Can you believe that at just 26 Miss Conna Walker has managed to build a household name – a globally recognised brand worn by the likes of Beyonce, JLO and the Kardashians. She is one incredible woman and the fact that she started her business at just 17 is amazing like WTAF!

Patricia Bright

Patricia Bright is the most honest woman on youtube who releases some of the best content on the platform. I have been watching her channel religiously for the last 3 years now and she has only gone from strenght to strength – last year she not only released her own lipstick but this year she is releasing a book!

Best of Fashion 2018

Best of Fashion 2018

WOW! What a year 2018 was! So much happened in the space of 12 months that it literally felt like the slowest yet fastest year of my life. I mean black panther came out and that was such a historical moment; that film was revolutionary and broke so many records! Kylie Jenner revealed Stormi to the world, we had not one but TWO royal weddings, we lost a legend; Aretha Franklin, Philo announced she was stepping down from her position as creative director of Céline after 10 years, Colin Kaepernick’s sponsorship with Nike caused a lot of controversies in America, the VS show received a hell of a lot of criticism, KFC in the UK ran of chicken, the sugar tax came into play, Shiro’s story had everyone going crazy and so much more happened but if I carried on we’d be here all day. I guess I’m just trying to say is that it was an unforgettable year!

It was a year of many highs for the fashion industry last year and for me and most probably a lot of people we saw many strides of progress within the industry – 2018 brought about so many positive changes in the world of fashion! Every year fashion is taking more noticeable steps to be better ethically and in embracing all sorts of people and bodies. But this year we saw fashion as just more than clothes we saw it as a way of promoting change, I have always said this and will continue to say it until the day I die; fashion is an art and one that can be used in so many ways and we saw this throughout the whole of 2018.

The Most Luxurious Beauty Calendars of 2018

The Most Luxurious Beauty Calendars of 2018

Christmas is almost here, the countdown has officially begun! And it is officially time to start thinking about the beauty advent calendar of your dreams.  I’m not a huge chocolate lover (please don’t hate me for saying that) so I’d choose a beauty calendar any day. Imagine opening a new beauty product every day of December, it means you have something to look forward to every day of that month. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a dream to me, especially considering the fact that I’m the type of person who forgets to buy beauty products, I only own basics – I spend the majority of my money on food and clothes (it’s a problem that I am currently trying to work on), so a beauty calendar is a godsend for me. Now is the time to treat yourself! They are becoming more and more popular each year and as more brands are making them the better the better they’re becoming and I am Living for it!

Most of these have sold out fast in the last couple of weeks and so these are some of my favourites which are still in stock so if I were you I’d get my hands on one ASAP before it’s too late!

White Instagram Models Pretending To Be Black?

White Instagram Models Pretending To Be Black?

So this over the last week Twitter has been going mad over White Instagram models pretending to be black. @WannasWorld started a thread on Twitter calling out white influencers who are apparently cosplaying as black women, she posted various screenshot examples and called for other people to send anymore that they found too. As you can see she received a ton of responses of what looks to be young white women altering their skin tone and hair to appear racially ambiguous. Later on in the thread, Kim Kardashian and Rachel Dolezal were brought up as more mainstream offenders. So my question for you guys is, is this appropriation? In my opinion, it is, 100%, without a doubt. I have discussed appropriation a few times on my blog this year but this is on another level. I have had enough, I am so sick and tired of people posing as though they belong to a culture or race that is not their own, people need to understand that it is not okay. You can appreciate but don’t appropriate!

The thing is, everyone loves black culture yet they don’t know the struggle that comes with being black especially in America. Black people in that country are constantly being racially abused (the problem of police brutality among African Americans has come to light in recent years). Young blacks are living in fear every single day of their lives just because of their skin tone, so when people do something like this, it’s just like WTAF. Are you even educated? In addition to this, Black women are always being called out for ‘self-hating’ just because they wear wigs, weaves and braid they hair etc but yet when white people are getting lip fillers, Brazillian butt lifts, texturising their hair and are extreme tanning just to look like us, they, themselves are not self-hating? I am tired, I am so done with this society and it’s double standards when it comes to issues regarding race. People are so extremely ignorant and I am tired of it. At this point people should be more knowledgeable about these situations, they just shouldn’t be happening. It’s 2018 and people are still using blackface? Are you fucking kidding me?

Coats essential to your Winter Wardrobe

Coats essential to your Winter Wardrobe

I’m so sick and tired of winter already, I’m not a winter person, I HATEi it, it has to be the most depressing season ever, why is it so dark at 4 pm?? It’s really not okay. And do you wanna know the most annoying thing about everyone’s ‘favourite season’ – I can’t even wear all of my cute outfits anymore because I don’t have a coat to go with every single outfit in my wardrobe. The other day I literally had to risk it and I went out wearing my cropped denim jacket despite it being 6 degrees outside. Everyone had to see that outfit, there was no way I was wearing a coat over it, it was WAAYY too cute be hidden by a big ass coat.

Saying that though, I have to say my favourite part of winter is 100% picking out my winter coat, the one that will walk me through the entirety of the season! But of course, you can never just have one, especially if you’re an avid fashion buyer like myself and I think I’ve found a solution to my problem, I have found the 3 essential coats that will go with absolutely everything in your wardrobe – with these 3 you’ll not have a bad outfit day, I can promise you that!

Nothing has really changed that much since last winter when it comes to jacket trends, puffer jackets and aviator jackets are still in and probably more popular than they were last year. But at the end of the day trends always die out so just pick a jacket that you love and know you’ll love in years to come whether it’s in trend or not.

The Aviator

I love the aviator because it’s like a biker jacket but 10 tomes warmer and just like a biker jacket it goes with everything and anything especially dresses and skirts!

The Puffer

If you didn’t already know I have been obsessed with puffer jackets since last year – I own 3 and my bank account wants to kill me. They remind me so much of the 90s so whenever I’m wearing a casual outfit it really makes the outfit.

If you’re gonna buy any of these three coats it has to be this one! This is the coat that makes you look like you put effort and lots of thought into your outfit when in reality you didn’t. I always pear this with joggers – it makes it look that little more stylish.

My Name is Ivis and I am obsessed with Suits

My Name is Ivis and I am obsessed with Suits

I feel like at this point you’re all tired of me starting almost every post with “I don’t know what it is but I am freaking obsessed with *******” so let me rephrase it a little – I don’t know why, but I am living for suits at the moment. They are so BOSS! After High School, I swore to myself that after 5 years of wearing a blazer almost every day of my life you would never see me in one again unless absolutely necessary but the world just didn’t want that for me.

This season it seems like every shop I walk into whether that be Topshop, Gucci, New look, Vivienne Westwood etc. they ALL sell suits, EVERY SINGLE one of them! It is so incredibly weird to me how 4 years ago or even last year you would literally struggle to find a nice suit that wasn’t designer and didn’t make you look like a complete and utter square. I don’t know if its just me but does anyone else ever get annoyed at the level of choice men have when it comes to things like suits and tracksuits? Whatever happened to equality? it’s 2018 for god sake! However, with more women taking inspiration from men’s fashion you could say there was a demand for suits. And I am so so happy because office wear was way to dull for this generation, every time I had an interview or meeting I just didn’t look like me, fashion is meant to be expressive and I just didn’t think suits/ the officewear did that. Everything was the same, there was so little variation so we thank god that more brands and designers decided to vamp up their suit game because if they hadn’t I would have!

So Where did it all start?

Inspired by the personal style of French artist Niki de Saint Phall, who would often wear a black-tie trouser suit with heels. ‘Le smoking’, the first tuxedo for women was designed half a century ago non-other than by the legendary Yves Saint Laurent. The name comes from 19th Century men’s smoking jackets, which were made out of silk lapels designed to allow any ash falling from cigars or cigarettes to slide off, keeping the jacket clean. The invention of the suit was somewhat deemed as scandalous at the time because it came decades before trousers became socially accepted as a fashion item for women.

“When Yves Saint Laurent’s smoking made its first appearance in an haute couture collection, it started a revolution. A man’s article of clothing thus became the symbol of female emancipation,” stated the press release for the 2005 exhibition Yves Saint Laurent Smoking Forever,

Back to school wishlist

Back to school wishlist

Everyone is officially back at school/college/ uni and I’m already counting down the days until summer, that is how deep it is. I say this now but I know for a fact that I will miss 6th form. As much as I hate it, I love it, this past year I have had some of the greatest and funniest moments of my life, I have made lifetime friends and I’ll miss not seeing them 5 days a week.

The transition from high school to 6th form was not as hard as everyone said it would be (well for me personally), the only thing that was stressful for me was finding a new outfit to wear every single day and I can proudly say that I did not repeat a single outfit last year, only God knows how I managed to do that because as of right now, I feel like I have nothing to wear, I have ran out of outfit ideas and I have spent all my money on clothes for my work experience ;(

The key to dressing for education is comfort, you don’t want to be doing too much for the sake of fashion, so my advice is to stick to basics. I learnt this the hard way, NEVER EVER waste a good outfit for school, it is not worth it!

Here is my back to school wishlist;
