Cropped jackets you need to cop

Cropped jackets you need to cop

Cropped jackets have been around since winter of 2017 and I don’t think they’re going anytime soon, they’re the perfect layering item and my favourite type of jacket to wear. For one, they keep you somewhat warm but at the same time you can still show off your outfit! A cropped jacket is the perfect outerwear piece to have during the summer, in all honesty, it should be one of your wardrobe staples.

The evolution of the cropped jackets over the last 3 years is one of my favourites – we’ve seen it go from being just cropped denim jackets to now cropped blazers (which I am LIVING FOR), cropped tweed jackets and cropped leather too! The item has been given a much-needed touch of elegance and we really love to see it.

Shortened to hit right at the waistline, this cut is seriously flattering too and here are my faves atm;

BTW Athleisure wear is still a thing

BTW Athleisure wear is still a thing

Hey! It’s me, Ivis and I am just here to remind you that athleisurewear is still very much a thing and that’s on PERIODT!

I feel like as the years go by athleisurewear just keeps getting cuter and cuter and it’s getting to the point where I’m like, “the gym doesn’t deserve this outfit, EVERYONE needs to see it.” I don’t know what it is, but when I wear cute ‘gym wear’, I really feel like I’m that BITCH. Do you know what I mean? And the thing I love most about athleisure wear is it’s versatility; I can wear it to the gym, I can wear it to my lectures, whilst running errands or even use it as loungewear at home and no matter where I choose to wear it I’ll still look cute AF.

I thought this trend had hit its peak back in 2017 with Vetements and champion fueling the entire thing but boy was I wrong! In a sense for celebrity fashion it hit its peak around that time, however, now mainstream fashion has jumped on the hype and I am seeing a lot more people sporting the look (pun intended). Never has it ever been more acceptable than it is now to wear your workout clothes outside of the gym.

FYI; Underwear is still the new outerwear

FYI; Underwear is still the new outerwear

Every time I wear a bralette or a cute slip dress my mum LOVES asking me if I’m going to sleep or if I’m going outside. Does anyone else’s mum do this thinking they’re funny, because I know I can’t be the only one who suffers from these jokes??? It’s so annoying ?

I feel like I say this all the time using different words but this has to fashion’s cutest trend and by far my all-time favourite. I know for a fact it’s here to stay – it’s been popular since the 90s and to this day it continues to reinvent itself. Whoever came up with the idea to wear underwear as outerwear and then made it mainstream honestly deserves the world and more! I used to be one of those people who would literally buy the most basic bras and bralettes because in my head i was like “who else is gonna see this but me?” and then lingerie became acceptable to wear as clothing again and now I pride myself in owning cute lace bras because one day they could contribute to a cute outfit, so technically underwear companies owe fashion for this!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR

1984 – Madonna wears a lace bustier on the album cover for Like A Virgin
1990 – Madonna dons the (now infamous) John Paul Gaultier corset bustier during her Blonde Ambition tour
1996 – Princess Diana gives slip dresses the royal seal of approval
1996 – Sporty spice makes wearing a sports bra as a top a thing
1998 – Carrie Bradshaw (styled by Patricia Field) makes a visible bra a must-have style
2002 – Christina Aguilera releases the video clip for Dirrty and flaunts her underpants
2018 – Kim Kardashian popularizes the trend for wearing lingerie bodysuits with trousers and skirts
2019 – Kim again wears her underwear outside, this time popularizing the current trend for lace bike shorts

All I am going to say is, the key to this trend is to make it look intentional!

Kanye West; A timeline of Greatness part 2

DW Kanye West Debuts At Paris Fashion Week
Kanye.

We need to take into consideration that Kanye West, he had made several attempts in the fashion industry before Yeezy became a household name, most notably 9 years ago with the debut of Dw by Kanye West named after his late mother, Donda West. However, the critics did not give ’Ye an easy out. “Kanye West’s collection was so Givenchy-esque that it’s embarrassing that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci was an expected guest,” wrote the Wall Street Journal’s Christina Binkley in her review.

Naturally, West hit back with a signature rant at the show’s afterparty. “This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow. This is not some celebrity shit. I don’t fuck with celebrities. I fuck with the creatives in this room, the amazing people who spend every day of their life trying to make the world a more beautiful place. The number of people that tried to get me a celebrity fucking deal. They said, ‘You need to do boot-cut jeans, or you won’t sell.’ Shut the fuck up!”

Despite this, his fashion show came to be the most hyped of the entire spring 2012 season, creating expectations that are often impossible to live up to, even for trained, established designers but it, unfortunately, lasted for just two seasons, funded solely by the rapper-turned-designer, and was ultimately shuttered without the backing of a larger brand.

Kanye outlines his frustrations with the fashion industry during an interview On BBC Radio 1 With Zane Lowe

In this extensive and endlessly talked-about interview with Zane Lowe, West expanded at length on the ideas from “Black Skinhead,” articulating his frustrations and gripes with the fashion industry in great detail. Over the course of an hour, he made the case for why he deserved the chance to design a full collection, not simply collaborate on one-offs. He explained to Zane Lowe that in traditional celebrity endorsement deals, the celeb’s input on the products themselves usually amounts to nothing more than “patina,” and took shots at the empty “creative director” titles celebrities are often given.  By contrast, he said he has so more to offer to brands, and to the world, as an actual designer of products, from high school basketball uniforms to film.

“I want a joint venture the way Stella McCartney has,” he told Lowe. This was the first time West expressed his feeling that he couldn’t impact culture with fashion without the support of a mega-corporation like Adidas to back his mega aspirations. (He told Lowe he hopes to eventually be “the anchor of the first trillion-dollar company.”) He said that without a large corporation’s infrastructure, the most he would be able to design would be T-shirts, likening his limitations to the time before Rocafella gave him a record deal. “Me doing the Yeezys and not having a joint venture with Nike the next day would have been like if I made ‘Jesus Walks’ and then wasn’t allowed to make an album,” West said. “There’s a reason I was the only rapper allowed to design a shoe with Nike,” he stated, “which means there has to be another step. It has to keep going. People didn’t love the Yeezys the way they did for no reason.”

Kanye Reveals He Previously Designed Sneakers for Giuseppe Zanotti and Balmain

Kanye West x Giuseppe Zanotti Mens Sneakers According to IBN ...

In an interview with Los Angeles-based 97.1 Amp Radio, Ye revealed that he had worked on sneakers for high-end fashion labels without previously taking any credit.

“I designed the [Giuseppe] Zanotti sneakers and people don’t know that. I designed Balmain sneakers and people don’t know that,” he said to demonstrate his authenticity and to be taken seriously as a legitimate voice in the fashion industry.

West Leaves Nike For Adidas

adidas -

2013 was the year Kanye began his battle to be recognized in the corporate world. His album Yeezus was him at his most anti-establishment with songs like “New Slaves,” but the drive really can be pinpointed to his frustration with Nike for only being interested in his name, not his ideas. By the end of the year, West had moved over to Adidas who have allowed him to be one step closer to creating a trillion-dollar fashion business!

A.P.C. X KANYE WEST

A.P.C x Kanye v2.0 | the inventory

Before West presented us with Yeezy season 1, he already had two collaborations with French brand A.P.C. underway. Released in 2013 and 2014, his first ready-to-wear collection with the line included rugged denim pieces, pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, and even accessories.

YEEZY SEASON 1

Yeezy Season 1 Is Now Live On Mr Porter - GQ

In early 2015, after a couple of years attending rather shows, the rapper returned to the fashion week scene, this time in New York launching his Yeezy line. With this came a few now-signature aspects, as it was a striking stagnant presentation which used relatively unknown models and mixed neutral basics with athleisure. And it was from this moment that athleisure wear became one of the biggest trends of the decade, all thanks to MR West!

YEEZY BOOST

Image

To date, no shoe has been more successful or (in)famous than the Yeezy Boost. Especially in 2015 and 2016. They retail for between $200 and $350, but because they are so limited, people often resell them for ridiculous prices and make an enormous profit.

The rapper’s 2016 album, The Life of Pablo, came when interest in his fashion endeavours were at it’s highest, so he capitalized on this through limited-edition merchandise, which sold at his tour stops as well as 21 temporary stores.

Designer Bags you NEED in your summer wardrobe!

Designer Bags you NEED in your summer wardrobe!

The fact that winter is basically over and we can’t even enjoy the sun makes me so upset, so it really makes me wonder what’s the point in all these blog posts if I can’t showcase my fits? Well, I have realised that the days I spend in my pyjamas are my least productive and without a doubt my most depressing. I mean we all remember the saying that the world is your runway right? And that shouldn’t change in lockdown, add a cute bag to your quarantine outfit and take some cute pictures. Buy that bag and plan out your outfits so that when all of this is over you can show the world what they have been missing out on!

Clouded clutches

Clouded clutches

Is it just me or is Bottega taking over the fashion industry! Last year it was their heeled sandals that were dominating summer and now their clouded clutches (officially known as the pouch) are taking over too. Bottega Veneta is known to be the hothouse of the minute and I could not agree more! The pouch is the bag of the moment, everyone either has one or wants one. It’s nearly impossible to scroll through Instagram without coming across the bag, it’s that popular. Never in a million years did I ever think that that this bag would be as successful as it is with the concurrent trend for structured top-handle totes. Kering, the conglomerate that owns Bottega Veneta, reported that it is the brand’s fastest-selling bag in its history, with hundreds being sold every week!

There is quite literally no look this bag does not go with; you can do casual, street or classy. It looks good regardless! I sense this becoming a staple bag and most definitely and an investment piece that will join the hall of fame with the likes of the birkins, lady diors and the Kellys etc, I mean It even now comes in a mini version!

Mules are here to stay

Mules are here to stay

Meet my new shoe obsession! Flat mules, heeled mules, there is a mule for every occasion; work, uni, dinner, shopping! if it’s a mule best believe will buy it. They’re just so easy to slip on, hassle-free and not as restricting as your average heel or shoe, and like I mentioned before, they are suitable for any occasion and they go with absolutely EVERYTHING. If you ask me they are a staple piece that you need in your wardrobe! Does anyone else feel that the older they get the more they fall in love with the more classical pieces and the more they stay away from buying things like trainers (which I am sure my mother would be more than happy to hear)! It is actually so insane how my style has evolved just over the short space of two years!

A brief history of the mule courtesy of Another magazine

The origins of the word mule lie in Ancient Rome, where it was mulleus calceus (a red or purple shoe worn by the three highest magistrates), but the contemporary appropriation refers to a shoe that is backless and usually closed-toed. Originally worn within the bedroom, this style of shoe has a storied history and when Comtesse d’Olonne, the risqué society beauty, wore a soft red pair of mules to church in 1694 – daringly peeping from beneath her richly-embellished skirt – it paved the way for the style. They went on to become popular within the French Court, both Madame de Pompadour and Marie Antoinette donning variations throughout the eighteenth century, inspiring Manolo Blahnik to ask “When you walk in mules, you walk a bit differently. It’s very sexy to me; you have to get your balance… Madame de Pompadour in her mules, walking around Versailles, click click click… Can you think of anything more exquisite?” Here, we chart the shoe’s journey from the boudoir to the runway…

GettyImages-516703648

They were all over the streets during fashion month 2015 and 2016 so the question is will they be every fashion influencers favourite shoe again this year? The mule was a staple on the Spring/Summer 2016 catwalk and we really have to thank Gucci and chanel for bringing them back in all their power and glory; a controversial style loved by some aka moi, and hated by others with no sense of style (lol joking fashion is subjective). I think these are the perfect transitional shoes for autumn, mules offer a covered-up yet more liberating option ideal for the transitional period before winter hits us hard and I know for a fact after the hot summer we have had winter is going to be horrendous 🙁

Trends we couldn’t get enough of in Summer 18

Trends we couldn’t get enough of in Summer 18

I literally feel like crying, summer is sadly over and soon we’ll be going back to our cosy knitwear and huge winter jackets. I feel like 2018 is going by way too fast, before I know it I’ll be going to university! Like WTAF!!!!! That’s so crazy to me. People are not lying when they say that time flies!

Anyways as my last goodbye/ tribute to the summer of 2018, I thought why not reminisce on the hottest trends of the season. In all honesty, I don’t know how I felt about the trends that dominated summer, I feel like I wasn’t really surprised because most of the trends we saw this summer had been on the rise for the last couple of years, they just weren’t mainstream yet. It was just an “Oh people are now wearing this?” type of moment.

In this new generation and era of social media it’s so easy to follow trends, it has never been easier than it is now for people to be inspired especially by “influencers” who are giving us none stop fashion inspo all day every day. We have everything right at the tip of our fingertips – there is no need for us to buy magazines anymore because all the inspiration we could ever need is online in so many different styles on so many different types of people. And that’s what I love most about social media – It’s diverse and no matter what you look like you can find the perfect person to inspire you!

CO- ORDS

Topshop was ahead of the game when it came to co-ords! They sold the best denim co-ords and my biggest regret this summer was not getting my hands on one ;(

Bum Bags

What many people need to learn for future reference is that as fashionable as they are bum bags DO NOT go with EVERYTHING. In all honesty, people really overdid it this year with the bum bags to the point that I got sick of seeing them however if it’s designer I’m not hating x

This was my obsession this summer! God only knows how many bandeaus I bought this summer, they’re just so freaking cute and it was free the nipple season so …….

Cropped Jackets

I think we have to thank Kanye for the rise of this trend with everyone wanting to cop the yeezy style. Cycling shorts are one of the best things to happen to fashion to be honest, they are perfect for t-shirt dresses that are a little too short and they loook great with everything from bandeaus, crop tops to my personal favourites – mens jumpers

I’ve already expressed my love for this trend, there’s nothing more that I really need to say. Here’s my blog post – https://ivistoday.co.uk/my-obsession-with-camo/

Juicy Couture tracksuits making a comeback?

Juicy Couture tracksuits making a comeback?

Never did I ever think that we’d see juicy couture or velour tracksuits back in fashion so soon. I thought we had at least another 5 years before we’d see them back again. But like I’ve said multiple times before fashion trends of the past are constantly coming back and are forever evolving to fit the brand new market of consumers.

Juicy Couture tracksuits were a favourite among celebrities and were everywhere back in the 2000s, everyone owned one! I’m not even going to lie to you, I loved juicy couture tracksuits back in the day, they were so incredibly comfortable and not to mention fashionable! I lived in my velour tracksuit, I literally could not live without it so much that my mother had to buy me another one, however this one was from primark, not quite the same but what did I know at the age of 5.

It’s always nice to see trends of the past come back because I always love to see how people style them, we get to see a whole new perspective. Before we used to pair them with uggs but now we pair them with booties and white adidas. And last year juicy couture came back with a bang by doing a collaboration with one of the most influential brands of the moment vetements. Anyone who is anyone is wearing vetements right now!
