Cropped jackets you need to cop

Cropped jackets you need to cop

Cropped jackets have been around since winter of 2017 and I don’t think they’re going anytime soon, they’re the perfect layering item and my favourite type of jacket to wear. For one, they keep you somewhat warm but at the same time you can still show off your outfit! A cropped jacket is the perfect outerwear piece to have during the summer, in all honesty, it should be one of your wardrobe staples.

The evolution of the cropped jackets over the last 3 years is one of my favourites – we’ve seen it go from being just cropped denim jackets to now cropped blazers (which I am LIVING FOR), cropped tweed jackets and cropped leather too! The item has been given a much-needed touch of elegance and we really love to see it.

Shortened to hit right at the waistline, this cut is seriously flattering too and here are my faves atm;

Summer European Road; our last stop

Summer European Road; our last stop

Welcome to the last part of my two weeks in Europe 🙁

Barcelona was everything that I had ever imagined it to be and so much more, I honestly cannot wait for this pandemic to be over so I can go and live my best life in this city again! Like most girls my age, Cheetah girls two introduced me to Barcelona, I remember me and my friends always used to say that when we go to Barcelona together one day we would recreate the “strut” video from the film. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance last year, we were short of another member, but rest assured I will recreate that video in the next 3 years, even if it kills me!

Barcelona was so incredible I don’t even know where to start. It was the perfect way to end our road trip! The people – 10/10, the vibe – 10/10, the weather – 10/10, the food – 10/10 and the people 10/10! We loved every single minute in Barcelona, some of much that we were willing to sleep on the beach for two more nights before going back to Luxembourg, however, we later found out that it was illegal (loool) and thank god because I’m sure that we all know from my blog that I would not last a day in a normal prison let alone foreign one!

So our air bnb was on the beach, however, it was located outside of the city but still within Arenys de mar. Which if you are going to something like this, I would highly recommend. Obviously accommodation outside the cities was a lot cheaper and the great thing about that was the fact that we really got to experience all the different cultures in a more authentic way if that makes sense. Because when you think about it, most people that go to Barcelona are tourists so the city is obviously going to cater to what tourists want to see, but with us being outside it, I just feel like everything was just a little more Spanish! Do you know what I mean?? And do you know how I know this?? Because the sangria in central Barcelona was a lot more watered down, a lot more expensive and did not taste like the one from the bars outside our apartment! And the same went for the food!

Every single day we spent in Barcelona was incredible! Days filled with sand, sun, good people and of course SANGRIA. My favourite day by far had to have been the boat ride! We met so the best people who had some amazing travel stories to tell. They even inspired me to continue doing my blog, to continue telling my story of how I see the world and that’s the reason as to why travelling will always hold such a special place in my heart, it’s so weird how strangers you meet during your travels can have such a huge impact on the way you see life.

I honestly cannot express to you how amazing this entire trip was for me, as I am writing out this last post in my series I am literally in tears. God has blessed me abundantly in the last 3 years and I cannot thank him enough for providing me with this life. I know that we’re in quarantine rn and you may be finding it hard but trust me when I say that gratitude is key to life. Although we may not always see it, we all have at least one thing to be grateful for! Practise gratitude daily and see how much of a positive impact it will have on your life! How can you expect opportunities or blessings to come your way if you cannot be already grateful for what’s in from of you?

In case you didn’t get the hint, I’d 100% recommend Barcelona!

Throwback Thursday; Fubu

Throwback Thursday; Fubu

Founded in 1992 by Daymond John, J. Alexander Martin, Keith Perrin, and Carlton Brown as a hat company FUBU ( “For Us By Us”) became a fashion staple during the 1990s street-wear scene. By the early 2000s, it was known globally as the “IT” brand for many black teens. So where did the idea come from? During the 80s, wool hats with cut tops were very popular amongst rappers. Huge companies sold these hats at an average price of around $20 which you can imagine at the time for a wool hat was a little ?. This is where John spotted an opportunity. He went home and shared the idea with his friend Carlton Brown. They both made around 80 hats and went out in New York  the next day selling each hat for  $10. They managed to sell out the same day ending up with $800 in revenue. That same day John went home and persuaded his mother to take out a loan, mortgaging their apartment. They borrowed $100, 000 in start-up cash and invested the money into the business. And that is how FUBU was born.

In the beginning, they were sewing the FUBU logo on t-shirts, jackets and other clothes trying to make the brand popular. However, they didn’t see the same success as they had had with their hats.  Things were tough. The clothing line was not an instant success. In an interview with Hot97 in 2017, John explained that for three years— from 1989-1992— FUBU didn’t make any money. In fact, the company was closed down three times before it began to generate income. However, In 1994, things began to pick up, John exposed his clothing on the popular trade show Magic, held in Las Vegas. Despite FUBU couldn’t even afford to rent a booth, they got orders for around $300 000. They were about to become really popular. In the next years, FUBU signed some decent contracts with big names like NBA, JC Penny, and some others. By the year 1998, the company declared around $350 million in sales. Today, FUBU’s sales are around $6 billion, Daymond John’s net worth has reached $250 million in 2015.

In 1995, a few years after John mortgaged his house for $100,000 to invest into FUBU with his business partners (and run the company out of that same house), Samsung became investors of the company after seeing John’s ad in the NY Times which read”A million dollars in orders, need financing.” By 1998, FUBU was totalling $350 million in yearly sales.

Then by luck, John managed to convince LL Cool J (who lived in the same neighbourhood as him and was a good friend of his) to wear a promotional t-shirt with the FUBU brand on it on some of his videos (around 40). Later, LL Cool J wore a FUBU hat while shooting a short video clip for The Gap which gave the company there exposure they needed!

 “He was wearing a pair of Gap jeans and a Gap shirt, but he was somehow able to sport one of our hats during the commercial. Then during his thirty-second freestyle rap, he looks directly into the camera and says, ‘For Us, By Us, on the low.’ No one at Gap nor any of their ad execs thought anything of it. It wasn’t until a month later that someone at the Gap found out, pulled the commercial, and fired a whole bunch of people after they had spent about $30 million running this campaign.”

But the damage was already done.

However, just like the other brands in this series, their reign didn’t last after a few missteps and investing $5 million into a compilation album titled ‘the good life’, FUBU left the U.S. market completely in 2003. In a book he co-authored, The Brand Within, John explained that one of the major factors that led to the company’s demise is that they had too much product. “Once you hit mark-down bins, it’s tough to climb out, because you’ve lost the sense that your clothes are fresh and vibrant,” he writes.

This Is Not A Drill, FUBU Is Back With A New Collection - Essence

Having said that, FUBU did make a comeback and last year they paired with Sorella Boutique for a collaboration, releasing a new 90s inspired women’s collection. They also came out with a Black lives matter capsule collection in late 2019 and patent suits under their name too. So hopefully FUBU can be the brand that it once was “for us by us”

Designer Bags you NEED in your summer wardrobe!

Designer Bags you NEED in your summer wardrobe!

The fact that winter is basically over and we can’t even enjoy the sun makes me so upset, so it really makes me wonder what’s the point in all these blog posts if I can’t showcase my fits? Well, I have realised that the days I spend in my pyjamas are my least productive and without a doubt my most depressing. I mean we all remember the saying that the world is your runway right? And that shouldn’t change in lockdown, add a cute bag to your quarantine outfit and take some cute pictures. Buy that bag and plan out your outfits so that when all of this is over you can show the world what they have been missing out on!

Flares are taking over

Flares are taking over

As we are all aware trouser trends tend to stick around a little longer than others. Look at the skinny jean, which has been influencing the fashion scene for over a decade and a half now. However, all of that has now changed, as the autumn/winter 2019 runways were dominated by wide-legged silhouettes, particularly flares.

If there is one trend that I hope never dies out when it comes to trousers/ jeans, it’s this one. For the last, I would say 3 years people were speculation when this trend would come back into fashion and the moment has finally arrived – flares are taking over! I kid you not, making flares mainstream again was one of the best decisions the fashion industry ever made. Flares look good on ANYONE and EVERYONE. First of all, they make your ass look peachy af, second of all they make you look like you have supermodel legs and lastly with the correct top they give the illusion of an hourglass figure. What’s not to love about these? I think with the comeback of these as well as mom jeans still dominating, we can officially say that the skinny jean is officially DEAD! When was the last time you wore skinny jeans because personally I don’t remember?? Literally ever since I did my blog post on how the skinny jean is dead back in 2017 I have only bought one pair.

The key to rocking flares in this 2020 is to give them a modern twist: I am talking Self-tie silk blouses, button-up cardigans, dramatic sleeve shirts/ blouses, anything sheer, flatforms, and really good tailoring in order to keep the look contemporary, for example; split hems are the hype rn and offer a brand-new take on a classic leg shape.

My go to sweat-proof concealers for summer

My go to sweat-proof concealers for summer

A long-lasting, crease-resistant concealer is a must! Concealer is a must-have for my makeup bag, for me, I cannot live without it – to me, it is more of an essential than foundation and powder because of the number of things it offers for my face; it not only covers up any dark circles under my eyes but it also covers breakouts, blemishes and dark spots to even out skin, while it can also double up as a highlighter and/ or colour corrector. And in summer it’s more essential than ever, especially for the days when it’s too hot to wear a full face of makeup and because of the fact that the days are longer so you need something that won’t move through the day aka sweat off your face.

 These are the 3 reasons waterproof concealers is the only makeup product you need for the rest of your life;

It doesn’t budge

It’ll keep uneven skin, fine lines and dark circles away all day long. Waterproof concealer will keep your eyes looking big no matter how little sleep you’re getting or how active you’ll be throughout the day. Test it out at the gym if you don’t believe me.

Gives the illusion of clear skin?

A waterproof concealer topped with a little setting powder will have everyone thinking you have the most flawless of skins!

Waterproof Makeup Is the New Thing

More and more, waterproof makeup — from foundation and concealer to mascara, blush, lipstick and more — is popping up everywhere as women are looking for cosmetics that will actually stay put. These new formulas will finally allow you to spend the day out in the sun, in the office or out with your friends without having to touch anything up.

My 2019 Summer European Road trip part two!

My 2019 Summer European Road trip part two!

Welcome to part two of my European Roadtrip! So our first official stop was Saarbrücken, again I had to get schooled on my geography because I thought that this place was in Germany, which technically it is but it actually isn’t at the same time. It is basically the capital and largest city of the state of Saarland, Germany and Saarland is a forested, southwestern German state bordered by France and Luxembourg. Saarbrücken is known to be a place where you will get a combination of both French and German influences.

https://trip101.com/article/best-things-to-do-saarbrucken-germany

This was just a pit stop though before we started our actual journey, you see you have to do a ton of prep before you start a 2-week adventure, you need to make sure you have all the essentials aka alcohol and snacks (my dry humour is the worst). On a more serious note tho, I have to say this city is so beautiful as you can see from the pictures above the streets are pretty af, are you guys seeing the pastel-coloured walls??? I am obsessed!! I can’t really say anything about this place because we were only there for a matter of hours, however, I have attached a link above this text for you guys in case you’re curious and want to actually go there yourselves.

The next morning we FINALLY began road trip and it took us about 8 hours I think to get from Saarbrücken to Liechtenstein and I have to applaud Julian because I don’t know how he did it, I’m the type of person that as soon as I get in a car or coach I instantly fall asleep. If you want me to be quiet just get me in a car and I’ll KO within 10 minutes. So if I ever do this again I can never be the designated driver because really and truly that is an accident waiting to happen. And I am being deadly serious, ask any of my family members, they get annoyed at me every single time! It’s so weird because I can have the best sleep ever but as soon as I know I’m gonna be in the car for longer than 30 minutes I’m gone.

We made a pitstop in a little village called Dunningen and we walked into this little Cafe and I kid you not it was as if these people had never seen black people in their lives. The stares my cousin and I received, I felt like I was a celebrity or something, these people were so fascinated by the idea that we were in their village – more time they were probably scared we were gonna rob them looool. But I guess that’s something you have to be cautious with when road tripping in Europe as a person of colour, you need to be careful where you go and stop because unlike the U.K. where people are covertly racist in Europe people are overtly racist so you need to be prepared – I have been lucky enough to have never experienced any form of racism whilst on holiday in Europe, thank god but I feel like one day I will definitely do a blog post on the most dangerous/ safest places for black people to travel because I know a lot of us love travelling but sometimes we have to be careful where we go because we don’t want to end up in any sticky situations.

One thing I need you guys to understand is that Switzerland is EXPENSIVE so please if you don’t have money money don’t even bother because you are literally going to bankrupt yourself, the food prices in this place are ridiculous. We went to an Italian restaurant for lunch and I think between the three of us we spend around 278 euros and we got 3 plates of pasta, a cheese platter and 3 glasses of white wine. To this day that is the most I have ever spent in a restaurant. I even remember when I did work experience at Latham the lawyers there always spoke about how expensive Switz is and I mean I was mentally prepared but I was still in shock, imagine a shot of expresso starts at 7 euros!! This place is literally made for the rich, there’s no space for poverty loooool.

Our first night was pretty chill, we ordered takeout (we really took in the culture as you can see) and we played drinking games. I don’t know about you but that was the best way to start the trip, we learnt so much about each other and had the best time! This was also the first time I actually got crashed the boat aka got super drunk. The night ended with me in falling asleep with my head in the toilet and everytime my friends tell me about that day I cringe a little inside – compared to my friends I’m a heavyweight but that day I really overestimated myself. The next day I woke up STILL drunk and we went on what I would call mine and Yolanda’s version of a hike, which would be driving up mountains instead of walking a trail and taking cute pictures hahaha (we share genes so we think alike).

I feel like this is so cliche and people always say it but there’s something so peaceful about being surrounded by the mountains. I just felt so at peace. The views there are so scenic, pictures and videos do not do Liechtenstein justice, until I go to an island this will remain to be the most beautiful place I have visited!

Summer scents to buy

Summer scents to buy

Am I the only one that has a different scent for every season of the year? I smell different every spring, summer, autumn and winter! Please, someone, tell me I’m not weird for doing this??? For me summer weather calls for a lighter and fresher take on perfume, why should I smell like the musks and the ouds that is so dark and so ghetto for summer?? There is literally no better time to embrace the best of citrus, fruity-florals, and sheer takes on new perfume than spring/ summer.  This didn’t start intentionally, It was just a tradition in high school for me to go to VS every summer and get their 3 for £24 deal so each bottle would last me a season and It took me a good 6 years to realise this loool. But the older I have gotten the more I have shied away from body sprays and moved onto perfumes. My mum got me proper perfume in year 9 before we went on holiday and I think it was Gucci bamboo and to this day it remains to be one of my favourite scents.

I’m not saying you should change your scent during summer, it’s not exactly mandatory but personally, I like it when certain smells or perfumes bring me back to certain moments in my life or bring back certain memories when I spray them, hence the fact that I switch it up. I like spraying something and being reminded of winter 2018 or summer 2019, you feel me?

Perfume shopping can be so overwhelming (and so far, 2020 has been exactly that. but let me not start otherwise I won’t stop), there are so many options to pick from so like most people you’ll probably sample about 4 until they all smell the same or you no longer have space on neither of your arms (lool I know we’ve all been through it) so you choose from those four. And that’s okay because we’re all human. Buty that’s why God brought you here today because I can tell you exactly which 4 to sample so you leave your home smelling luxurious every day of the week! So, how do you pick the best perfume? It sounds obvious, but look out for notes that you’re drawn too. Here are some of my summer faves;
