Flares are taking over

Flares are taking over

As we are all aware trouser trends tend to stick around a little longer than others. Look at the skinny jean, which has been influencing the fashion scene for over a decade and a half now. However, all of that has now changed, as the autumn/winter 2019 runways were dominated by wide-legged silhouettes, particularly flares.

If there is one trend that I hope never dies out when it comes to trousers/ jeans, it’s this one. For the last, I would say 3 years people were speculation when this trend would come back into fashion and the moment has finally arrived – flares are taking over! I kid you not, making flares mainstream again was one of the best decisions the fashion industry ever made. Flares look good on ANYONE and EVERYONE. First of all, they make your ass look peachy af, second of all they make you look like you have supermodel legs and lastly with the correct top they give the illusion of an hourglass figure. What’s not to love about these? I think with the comeback of these as well as mom jeans still dominating, we can officially say that the skinny jean is officially DEAD! When was the last time you wore skinny jeans because personally I don’t remember?? Literally ever since I did my blog post on how the skinny jean is dead back in 2017 I have only bought one pair.

The key to rocking flares in this 2020 is to give them a modern twist: I am talking Self-tie silk blouses, button-up cardigans, dramatic sleeve shirts/ blouses, anything sheer, flatforms, and really good tailoring in order to keep the look contemporary, for example; split hems are the hype rn and offer a brand-new take on a classic leg shape.

Here are my fave flares atm;

I NEED A PURSE CLOSET!!!

I NEED A PURSE CLOSET!!!

Can I please just have Kylie Jenner’s life already, she’s really out here living the AMERICAN DREAM that most of us could only ever dream of! She’s the ultimate Bad Bitch! She has a whole closet just for her purses which can I add are worth more than a $1 million – that’s an entire mortgage and more! Does it really get more Bad Ass than that? I don’t think so!

I never thought I needed a purse closet until I saw Kylies, I literally used to think all I needed in life was a walk in wardrobe and I’d be complete but no now I need the whole trio – a shoe closet, a purse closet AND a walk-in wardrobe, especially considering my obsession with fashion, it’s a must.

The Classics every girl needs in their Purse Closet

I couldn’t do this blog post without giving you a little inspiration to kick off your purse closet mood board, that would just be cruel.

So every fashion lover knows that every season and every year there are new trends and this is with everything – bags, shoes and of course clothing but what we also know is that there are the timeless classics that will never go out of style. I mean if you ever decide to build your very own purse closet and don’t include these classical bags then we will need to have a serious talk and reevaluate your life because these are the bags that every woman needs to own before their 50th Birthday!

SS18 Designer Bag Wishlist

SS18 Designer Bag Wishlist

Will my obsession with bags ever stop? No I don’t think so, one day I will without a doubt have an entire walk in closet just to keep my bag collection! I am speaking it into existence! 2018 has had me obsessing over cross body bags, their small, convenient and more importantly you can run if need be with them. They’re perfect for everyday But of course my love for the classic tote will never stop! This summer we all need to embrace colour, no more keeping it boring with black and brown bags – go out of your comfort zone – who cares if the colour of your bag doesn’t match your outfit, with a bag as expensive as these I will wear them to their death.

Here are the designer bags I think you should invest in this summer.

Best Dressed; 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Best Dressed; 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Last week was the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards and this year wasn’t you’re average Golden Globes but it was a movement, Women and men wore black in support of the Me Too movement and Time’s Up initiative to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in the workplace.

As a young woman growing up in today’s world I find it hard to believe that there is still gender inequality within the workplace, it’s 2018 for goodness sake. No one is born more superior than the other, we are all equal, yet society teaches us that there is a hierarchy and men are at the top of this. Women have always had to fight for their rights, we had to fight for our right to vote and until recently women were only seen to be homemakers, we had to prove ourselves and we have to work a hundred times harder than men in order to gain high ranking roles yet when we do obtain those roles we’re still paid less. Why do men get paid more to do the same job? Why are women disregard for promotions? Why is this still occurring? Who decided this? What more needs to be done for there to be gender equality within the workplace?

As well as fighting for gender equality the night was also dedicated to fighting against sexual misconduct in the work place. Receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, handed to her by Reese Witherspoon, one of the leaders of Time’s Up Oprah delivered an empowering and emotional speech.“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.”

A lot of women are scared to speak out against sexual harassment within the workplace over fear that they may not be believed or that they may lose their jobs. A good example of this is Harvey Weinstein, a well known director in Hollywood who took advantage of his position and convinced women into committing sexual acts with him by telling them they would potentially lose their jobs and last year more than 50 women made allegations against him and the numbers are still growing. This needs to change and it needs to change now! Why does sexual harassment even occur especially in the workplace, women are not objects and they should be able to do their jobs in peace.

On the bright side black looks good on EVERYONE and the Golden Globes is evidence of this, people did not come to paly this year! here are my favourite looks;

Soul Scene; Gucci’s pre-fall campaign

Soul Scene; Gucci’s pre-fall campaign

Back in January I told you guys all about Gucci’s pre- fall campaign. The Luxury fashion house teased us with a series of audition videos on Instagram which solely featured people of colour. The models were asked what soul meant to them and were asked to dance for the camera and now we finally know the whole idea behind the audition tapes as just over a week ago Gucci officially released the campaign titled “soul scene”.

Gucci’s pre-fall campaign takes inspiration from ’60s influences, including England’s underground Northern Soul movement, sparked by black American soul music. The inspiration for soul scene also came from the recent exhibition, Made You Look, at London’s Photographer’s Gallery, which focused on black masculinity and dandyism.

Creative director Alessandro Michele did an amazing job with this ad campaign! It celebrates young people who are not afraid to express themselves through art, performance and dance. The campaign explores freedom of self expression and and flamboyancy. It is fun, colourful, creative, vibrant, energetic, beautiful, different and extremely uplifting!

I am so proud of how far the fashion industry has come in the last couple of years and it can only get better from here! The industry is taking notable steps towards a more representative and positive future. And Kanye West and Gucci are leading the way to a more diverse industry which I am so proud to be apart. As a black woman in the industry it is incredible to see the industry evolve.

Lets talk about Gucci’s new prefall 17 Campaign

Lets talk about Gucci’s new prefall 17 Campaign

Unlike legendary fashion houses smaller brands have always embraced models of all types, genders, colours and shapes. For years people have complained about the lack of diversity in that fashion industry especially when it comes to luxury fashion houses, I mean we always see the occasional black model on the runway or in a few campaigns every once in a while but that just isn’t enough, but feel as though this year may be the year that things finally change across the industry and Gucci are leading the way!

Usually when fashion houses release their new campaigns they go for big names in the modelling industry or well known Hollywood actors and actresses, however Gucci completely changed the game this week when they teased us with their new prefall 17 campaign where they introduced a whole new cast of newcomers. The Italian house posted nine audition videos featuring potential models introducing themselves and being asked questions such as what does soul mean to you, what is your spirit animal and at the end of the video they were asked to dance to an old school song. The auditions raised so many questions for me such as; what is the concept behind Gucci’s new campaign?, what made them decide to do this and how is their campaign going to turn out? All the models so far have been black which is definitely going to give the brand a lot of positive publicity, this is a big diversity push in the right direction from one of the most influential luxury bands in the world and after years of trying to promote change people are finally taking action! Gucci is sending a bold message to the entire world that represents the importance of inclusiveness in fashion and the urgent need to tell more complex stories and show that anyone regardless of their background can be apart of the conversation and story in fashion.

Are embellished shoes and boots the new thing?

Are embellished shoes and boots the new thing?

Lately designers have been looking to museums and galleries for inspiration explaining why their latest designs are full of historical references. Recently everything from jeans, skirts, jackets and shoes have been covered in embroidery – winter has never looked so stylish!

Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi is influenced by what she calls the “hard lushness” of antique military regalia, from embroidered insignia to fur plumes and multibuckled, over-the-knee boots. “Watching War and Peace, I was drawn to the balance between the beautiful toughness of the military uniforms and the feminine draping of the women’s costumes. I love that tension and contrast. I call it sensual friction – velvet is sensual but also has military echoes.”

Christian Louboutin visits museums as part of his “creative mood gathering. I don’t immediately translate what I see but keep it with me so it can appear down the line in a different way.”

Gucci’s Alessandro Michele matches his eclectic, pearl-strewn Renaissance-meets-1980s dresses with art deco-influenced, suede and roccia snakeskin, an aesthetic he evolved last season and which, like most of his ideas, is proving influential. Nicholas Kirkwood has long used pearls hollowed into a high heel as a signature and this season makes them a bold statement, running a graduated row of aniseed ball‑sized ones around the heel of his loafers, the perfect balance of glamour and toughness. His inspiration is presumably early 20th century, rather than 16th, as the range is named Casati, after the pearl-wearing Marchesa.

“I have never felt so inspired as in St Petersburg,” says Edgardo Osorio, co-founder of Aquazzura, whose supremely rich and ornate autumn collection is titled From Russia With Love. “I wanted to convey the atmosphere of romance and grandeur without being too literal. Shoes have to be for life today so I picked wonderful details from the Hermitage – fabrics on furniture and clerical robes, Imperial jewelleryand military insignia, the colours of stones and subtle furs, marbles and mosaics.”

From Valentino’s couture celebration of Shakespeare’s anniversary, complete with ruffs, doublets and high-waisted gowns, to grandly braid-embroidered tailored military jackets at Roberto Cavalli and Andrew Gn , a strong vein of historic costume runs through this winter’s style. Yet the season’s ornamented shoes and boots are easier to meld into contemporary wardrobes; they signal fashion savoir-faire but will remain trophy items when the current yen for historicism fades.

Festival Fever and major FOMO

Festival Fever and major FOMO

leeds-stage

Festival season is almost over and in all honesty I don’t know whether to be happy or sad. I mean i’m happy because it means that i won’t have to miss out on another festival this year and see everyone’s photos on social media of them having fun because i’m one of those people who gets extreme FOMO whether I know you or not! However I’m also sad because it means that they’ll be no more amazing outfit inspiration all over my Tumblr and Instagram and in addition to this, no more festivals mean no more summer and back to school :((  But next year after I finish high school I plan on having the best summer ever and the time of my life by traveling and going to as many festivals and places as possible in the space of 3 months.

I’m literally so upset because I missed out on a chance to go to Leeds fest this Friday which if I haven’t mentioned already I am  extremely sad about because whilst my friends are out having fun i’ll be stuck at home watching Netflix. Talk about an eventful Friday night right? I thought that I might as well turn my disappointment into a blog post and give you guys an idea of what I would wear if I was going to Leeds fest for the full weekend accessories included!
