DW Kanye West Debuts At Paris Fashion Week
Kanye.

We need to take into consideration that Kanye West, he had made several attempts in the fashion industry before Yeezy became a household name, most notably 9 years ago with the debut of Dw by Kanye West named after his late mother, Donda West. However, the critics did not give ’Ye an easy out. “Kanye West’s collection was so Givenchy-esque that it’s embarrassing that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci was an expected guest,” wrote the Wall Street Journal’s Christina Binkley in her review.

Naturally, West hit back with a signature rant at the show’s afterparty. “This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow. This is not some celebrity shit. I don’t fuck with celebrities. I fuck with the creatives in this room, the amazing people who spend every day of their life trying to make the world a more beautiful place. The number of people that tried to get me a celebrity fucking deal. They said, ‘You need to do boot-cut jeans, or you won’t sell.’ Shut the fuck up!”

Despite this, his fashion show came to be the most hyped of the entire spring 2012 season, creating expectations that are often impossible to live up to, even for trained, established designers but it, unfortunately, lasted for just two seasons, funded solely by the rapper-turned-designer, and was ultimately shuttered without the backing of a larger brand.

Kanye outlines his frustrations with the fashion industry during an interview On BBC Radio 1 With Zane Lowe

In this extensive and endlessly talked-about interview with Zane Lowe, West expanded at length on the ideas from “Black Skinhead,” articulating his frustrations and gripes with the fashion industry in great detail. Over the course of an hour, he made the case for why he deserved the chance to design a full collection, not simply collaborate on one-offs. He explained to Zane Lowe that in traditional celebrity endorsement deals, the celeb’s input on the products themselves usually amounts to nothing more than “patina,” and took shots at the empty “creative director” titles celebrities are often given.  By contrast, he said he has so more to offer to brands, and to the world, as an actual designer of products, from high school basketball uniforms to film.

“I want a joint venture the way Stella McCartney has,” he told Lowe. This was the first time West expressed his feeling that he couldn’t impact culture with fashion without the support of a mega-corporation like Adidas to back his mega aspirations. (He told Lowe he hopes to eventually be “the anchor of the first trillion-dollar company.”) He said that without a large corporation’s infrastructure, the most he would be able to design would be T-shirts, likening his limitations to the time before Rocafella gave him a record deal. “Me doing the Yeezys and not having a joint venture with Nike the next day would have been like if I made ‘Jesus Walks’ and then wasn’t allowed to make an album,” West said. “There’s a reason I was the only rapper allowed to design a shoe with Nike,” he stated, “which means there has to be another step. It has to keep going. People didn’t love the Yeezys the way they did for no reason.”

Kanye Reveals He Previously Designed Sneakers for Giuseppe Zanotti and Balmain

Kanye West x Giuseppe Zanotti Mens Sneakers According to IBN ...

In an interview with Los Angeles-based 97.1 Amp Radio, Ye revealed that he had worked on sneakers for high-end fashion labels without previously taking any credit.

“I designed the [Giuseppe] Zanotti sneakers and people don’t know that. I designed Balmain sneakers and people don’t know that,” he said to demonstrate his authenticity and to be taken seriously as a legitimate voice in the fashion industry.

West Leaves Nike For Adidas

adidas -

2013 was the year Kanye began his battle to be recognized in the corporate world. His album Yeezus was him at his most anti-establishment with songs like “New Slaves,” but the drive really can be pinpointed to his frustration with Nike for only being interested in his name, not his ideas. By the end of the year, West had moved over to Adidas who have allowed him to be one step closer to creating a trillion-dollar fashion business!

A.P.C. X KANYE WEST

A.P.C x Kanye v2.0 | the inventory

Before West presented us with Yeezy season 1, he already had two collaborations with French brand A.P.C. underway. Released in 2013 and 2014, his first ready-to-wear collection with the line included rugged denim pieces, pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, and even accessories.

YEEZY SEASON 1

Yeezy Season 1 Is Now Live On Mr Porter - GQ

In early 2015, after a couple of years attending rather shows, the rapper returned to the fashion week scene, this time in New York launching his Yeezy line. With this came a few now-signature aspects, as it was a striking stagnant presentation which used relatively unknown models and mixed neutral basics with athleisure. And it was from this moment that athleisure wear became one of the biggest trends of the decade, all thanks to MR West!

YEEZY BOOST

Image

To date, no shoe has been more successful or (in)famous than the Yeezy Boost. Especially in 2015 and 2016. They retail for between $200 and $350, but because they are so limited, people often resell them for ridiculous prices and make an enormous profit.

The rapper’s 2016 album, The Life of Pablo, came when interest in his fashion endeavours were at it’s highest, so he capitalized on this through limited-edition merchandise, which sold at his tour stops as well as 21 temporary stores.

Kanye West; A timeline of Greatness part 2

Kanye West; A timeline of Greatness part 1

Kanye West, you either love him or you hate him, there is no in-between. Personally I fucking adore this man. When it comes to fashion he is so ahead of his time, he is a visionary, a creative and one of the best that this generation has ever seen, he took simplicity to another level with his brand Yeezy. Think about all of the fast-fashion brands that he influenced to copy the Yeezy style and think about all of the sneakers and trainers that resemble every single Yeezy he has ever created and then come back to me and tell me this man isn’t influential.

As I am sure you are all aware, Thursday last week Forbes announced that Ye is officially a billionaire, they estimated that he is worth $1.3 billion, however, Mr Wests states that he is worth more than that and that his net with is actually $3.3 billion. Either way, he’s now a billionaire and I thought what better way to celebrate his new status than to dedicate an entire blog post to this incredibly innovative man! Today I am taking you through the years of Kanye’s fashion history, this man is more than Yeezy and has clearly always aspired for a career in fashion! Despite his critics and haters – West has wedged his way into the archives of high fashion building himself an empire and definitely a brand that will go down in streetwear history!

West Collaborates with A Bathing Ape on a “Dropout Bear” Bapesta

A Bathing Ape Bapesta Kanye West College Dropout - 0607FS-001

In 2007, Bape was by far one of the most popular streetwear brands on the planet and to this day still remains to be iconic. The Bapesta sneaker was their crown jewel, and Kanye designed a version that featured his mascot, the “Dropout Bear.” This marked the first time West collaborated with a brand on an original sneaker. Around this time West was freely name-dropping his label in songs like “Stronger”, despite its non-existence.

“I have that opportunity to put my name on something and people will buy it, but I want to create something that has its own voice, and other designers can look at it and be inspired by. I wasn’t put on this earth to make money – I was put on this earth to make magic” – Kanye West

Alain Milki Shutter Shades

Happy 10 Year Anniversary To Kanye's Trendy Shutter Shades | Cool ...

Who remembers these?? OMG, the nostalgia is real, I can guarantee you that my oldest brother owned a pair of these in every single colour, I’m not even over exaggerating! Although the existence of shutter shades traces back to the ’50s, it was West himself who made them mainstream during the late aughts. Premiering the distinct shade style in his music video for “Strong” back in 2007, West wore a contemporary design custom-made for him by designer Alain Mikli. Featuring bars of metal or plastic running horizontally across them, they became known as “Kanye West shades” and spawned dozens of knock-off versions after.

Samples of Pastelle sunglasses designed by Retrosuperfuture

In the same year, he also teamed up with Australian fashion label Ksubi to produce eyewear for Pastelle. Instead of getting too DIY, West was to consult with designer George Gorrow, who previously created stage eyewear for his music videos. The designs would include limited-edition gold frames and priced at $2,000. Apart from the announcement, there is no evidence the designs ever surfaced. But above you can see some of the samples and what was expected from the collection.

Around this time, West also started expressing his desire to break into the realms of high fashion. “I’m in the same position I was in with music before I got it together and finally managed to figure out what my style was,” West told Clash magazine. “I used to have tracks that sounded like Timbaland and the next track would sound like DJ Premier… So when I’m doing designs I have one thing that looks like Venice and Ralph shit and the next thing is in the BAPE area. So it’s really about figuring out how to embody all of these things I like but have my own voice. ”

West spent a lot of the late 2000s working with the French luxury house LV, being a major part of their ongoing streetwear interests through a series of sneakers. Working on styles like the Don and the Jasper, he added his personal touch with bright colours and lace and strap play. he had flashy pink soles, tassel embellishments and gold shoelace rings, this collaboration itself yielded a mean range of collectables. The Jasper sneaker is the most valuable sneaker in the world right now – with a pair going for £22,763 having increased by 2,532% in value. I did a blog post on it a few months ago, check it out here.

The Nike Air Yeezy is Launched

How the Air Yeezy 2 Led to Kanye West's Greatest Success — and ...

How can we ever forget Kanye’s first every Yeezys?? 11 years later and he’s built an empire big enough to rival Nike’s Air Jordans, all in the space of less than a decade!

After him dissing Nike in his songs it was surprising to many ‘Ye’s response to being asked how he felt about Nike retroing the Air Yeezy line. West has given Nike his blessing to re-issue the Air Yeezy 1 and Air Yeezy 2 because The People having what they want is most important.

Back in 2009, Mr West wanted to learn more about fashion before he launched his own fashion brand so he interned at Fendi alongside designer Virgil Abloh CEO of Off- White and the artistic director of menswear for LV. The rapper described his sartorial training as consisting of learning from the best, as well as typical “intern work” like “every day, going to work, walking to work, getting cappuccinos…”

My winter essential; Tracksuits

My winter essential; Tracksuits

I feel like I start almost every single one of my blog posts by saying how much I used to hate the trend that I’m writing about but then how over time I learned to love it blah blah blah but that’s the reality that is my life – I feel like little me would always proclaim how much I loved fashion but I never really appreciated it as much as I do now! Getting older, reading more on fashion and having my blog has taught me so many things, the most important thing for me was learning to accept that fashion is an art and certain trends are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but we have to look at the bigger picture and how we can make those trends fit our personal ‘style’.

Today I’m not really talking about a certain trend because tracksuits have been around for TIME, instead, I’m talking about my new found love for them and how in recent years through the ‘streetwear’ hype they have become more and more popular and no longer just something that you wear to the track or to workout but almost a must-have in your wardrobe.

Not even going to lie when I say baby Ivis was way ahead of her time when it came to fashion (with the help of my mother of course aka the woman who bought all my clothes), I had so many tracksuits that I NEVER wore because I thought that they were “chavy” and disgusting because at this point in time I was a girls girl and tracksuits were most definitely not my thing but my mother kept buying them regardless. What was going through my head? Tracksuits are warm, comfy af, effortless and not to forget stylish!

Over the last couple of months, I have been saving tracksuit after tracksuit to my wishlist getting ready for this coming season and considering how cold the UK is going to be this year I need at least 5 to help me through the winter! I’m not over exaggerating here. Here are some of my favourites;

She has a whole closet just for her purses which can I add are worth more than a $1 million – that’s an entire mortgage and more! Does it really get more Bad Ass than that? I don’t think so!

Royal Wedding 2018 Guest Fashion

Royal Wedding 2018 Guest Fashion

So the wedding of the decade happened yesterday and the nation as well as the entire world fell in love with Meghan Markle – I am in absolute awe of this woman. Before yesterday I kept telling everyone that I could careless about the royal wedding but please tell me why I spent the majority of the day retweeting photos and memes from the big day? I literally became obsessed and adored everything about the day.

Besides the dress what I loved most about their wedding was the way that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex mad Princess Diana a part of their day – it brought tears to my eyes. The wedding was full of subtle tributes to Harry’s late mother; Meghan walked down the aisle of St. George’s Chapel holding a small bouquet of flowers that included Diana’s favorite flower, forget-me-nots, picked from a private garden at Kensington Palace, where Harry grew up; her engagement ring included two diamonds from Diana’s collection; during the Windsor Castle ceremony, Meghan and Harry picked a hymn that was sung at Diana’s funeral in 1997 ― eliciting a tear from the groom; her incredibly beautiful long veil, a lace number including the flowers of all 53 countries in the British Commonwealth, yet another salute to Diana, whose train at her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles appeared equally long; lastly, Instead of gifts, the couple asked guests to make charitable donations to organizations close to their hearts, including the Children’s HIV Association, the anti-homelessness group Crisis, and The Myna Mahlia Foundation, an Indian women’s group. Diana was famously generous with her time and remained actively involved in charity work until her death; she was particularly involved in AIDS-related causes. They even left an empty seat beside Prince William to honour Princess Diana.

Now onto the fashion of the wedding, I have to say most of the guests looked amazing but there was the occasional guest who didn’t really bring their A game which was very disappointing – how can you come to a royal wedding looking ordinary?

Victoria and David Beckham did not disappoint! I mean is there ever a time where the pair didn’t look amazing? They know how to dress for an occasion thats for sure – I cannot get over just how stunning they both looked! That red shoe adds so much of a statement to Victorias outfit and is a clear example of how simple goes a long way.

Amal and George Clooney. Yellow is most definitely Amals colour, omg doesn’t she look like an absolute dream! And come on lets be honest George Clooney looks good in anything – he is ageing well .

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre. Idris you’re doing amazing baby but your fiancee on the other hand, wow, how can someone dress ordinary to the wedding of the decade – just because you added a fancy hat to your Gucci outfit, it doesn’t make it royal wedding appropriate b.

Oprah Winfrey. The Queen of America looked utterly stunning if I do say so myself. Oprah didn’t come to play when she chose this outfit – I love everything about it, the colour on her, the way it fits her body and just how beautiful it is.

Abigail Spencer and Priyanka Chopra

Abigail Spencer and Priyanka Chopra. Now this is how you dress to a royal wedding! Priyanaka KILLED IT! There is nothing more to say!

Serena Williams

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian. This dress fits her in all the right places an d just look at the way that colour compliments her complexion!

Lady Kitty Spencer. Have you ever seen someone look so GOOD in green because I haven’t. This look on Lady Spencer is EVERYTHING for me – I absolutely adore it on her.

Cressida Bonas. In all honesty I’m not sure whether I love or hate this outfit – but it looks good on her, on anyone else I think I would probably hate it.

Caroline Greenwood and Will Greenwood. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Patrick J. Adams and wife Troian Bellisario. Does Troian not look like an absolute angel? so effortlessly beautiful!

SS18 Designer Bag Wishlist

SS18 Designer Bag Wishlist

Will my obsession with bags ever stop? No I don’t think so, one day I will without a doubt have an entire walk in closet just to keep my bag collection! I am speaking it into existence! 2018 has had me obsessing over cross body bags, their small, convenient and more importantly you can run if need be with them. They’re perfect for everyday But of course my love for the classic tote will never stop! This summer we all need to embrace colour, no more keeping it boring with black and brown bags – go out of your comfort zone – who cares if the colour of your bag doesn’t match your outfit, with a bag as expensive as these I will wear them to their death.

Here are the designer bags I think you should invest in this summer.

Riccardo Tisci Appointed as Chief Creative Officer of Burberry

Riccardo Tisci Appointed as Chief Creative Officer of Burberry

Just over a year after leaving his position as creative director of Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci effective March 12 is now the chief creative officer of the very traditional British brand Burberry. The appointment of the former Givenchy designer means that the two top jobs at Burberry are now held by Italians — Marco Gobbetti took over from Mr Bailey as chief executive in October. Mr Gobbetti said Mr Tisci is “one of the most talented designers of our time”, describing his creations as having “an elegance that is contemporary”. This is something that I totally agree with, in my eyes during his years at Givenchy Riccardo reinvented the brand without it completely losing it’s brand image, he took a Parisian house best known for its links with Audrey Hepburn and modernised it by putting smoking, burnt-out wrecks of cars on the catwalk, Kardashians in the front row, and emeralds dangling from the septums of models. He was a man that was not afraid to try new things and I can’t wait to see what he has on the cards for Burberry.

Kim Kardashian West with North front row at Givenchy during PFW 2014

Marco also added that his fellow Italian had a “skill in blending streetwear with high fashion” that is “highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer”. Everything now revolves around streetwear, it’s the now and although traditional British brands like Burberry are still very relevant, in my opinion I feel as though if they don’t catch up with the times they may be left behind. There is now a new generation of consumers that need catering to and they love edge and all things cool. Tisci’s Burberry is likely to look different than Bailey’s – I predict he will bring a huge twist to this classical brand making it more up market. Burberry is best known for its classic trenchcoats, it champions British heritage. Tisci is known for darkly subversive, unapologetically sexual, deeply urban, boundary-pushing fashion, we can’t forget that he’s the man that talked Kanye West into wearing a black leather kilt during his 2011 Watch the Thrones tour. Where Bailey valued British values and traditions , Tisci celebrates hedonism. Having produced haute couture at Givenchy, Tisci also has a great deal of expertise (and red carpet exposure) for eveningwear, a category that Burberry hasn’t really invested in. I cannot even describe how excited I am about this. I need it to be September!

Burberry Spring 2017 Runway

Mr Tisci “I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.”

Tisci will bring a mass audience, and a youthful following, to Burberry. I am so excited to see what the future has to hold for Burberry and to see it’s transformation this September when Mr Tisci presents his very first collection with the brand.

Best Dressed; 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Best Dressed; 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Last week was the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards and this year wasn’t you’re average Golden Globes but it was a movement, Women and men wore black in support of the Me Too movement and Time’s Up initiative to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in the workplace.

As a young woman growing up in today’s world I find it hard to believe that there is still gender inequality within the workplace, it’s 2018 for goodness sake. No one is born more superior than the other, we are all equal, yet society teaches us that there is a hierarchy and men are at the top of this. Women have always had to fight for their rights, we had to fight for our right to vote and until recently women were only seen to be homemakers, we had to prove ourselves and we have to work a hundred times harder than men in order to gain high ranking roles yet when we do obtain those roles we’re still paid less. Why do men get paid more to do the same job? Why are women disregard for promotions? Why is this still occurring? Who decided this? What more needs to be done for there to be gender equality within the workplace?

As well as fighting for gender equality the night was also dedicated to fighting against sexual misconduct in the work place. Receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, handed to her by Reese Witherspoon, one of the leaders of Time’s Up Oprah delivered an empowering and emotional speech.“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.”

A lot of women are scared to speak out against sexual harassment within the workplace over fear that they may not be believed or that they may lose their jobs. A good example of this is Harvey Weinstein, a well known director in Hollywood who took advantage of his position and convinced women into committing sexual acts with him by telling them they would potentially lose their jobs and last year more than 50 women made allegations against him and the numbers are still growing. This needs to change and it needs to change now! Why does sexual harassment even occur especially in the workplace, women are not objects and they should be able to do their jobs in peace.

On the bright side black looks good on EVERYONE and the Golden Globes is evidence of this, people did not come to paly this year! here are my favourite looks;

Riccardo Tisci departs from his role as creative director at Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci departs from his role as creative director at Givenchy

Today is a sad day for the fashion industry as after 12 years and 93 stunning collections as the creative director at Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci has decided to make his exit from the famously chic fashion house. Sadly, his menswear and couture collections shown together in Paris last month were his last collections as a Givenchy designer, so unfortunately we will not be seeing him take his bow at this years upcoming ready- to- wear shows. It is reported that the forthcoming autumn/winter 2017 collection is to be completed by the studio team.

During his years at Givenchy Riccardo was able to revive the house for the new generation of upcoming luxury consumers also known as us, his ideas created a foundation for the future of Givenchy and turned it into the brand that we know and love today, he was a man that was not afraid to try new thing, he took risks, he pushed boundaries, he broke rules that we didn’t even know could be broken,he was open mined and open to anything and everything.

From designing highly embellished haute couture gowns to distinctive graphic sweatshirts, sneakers and sportswear-inspired garments, he did it all! He was able to incorporate street wear into a brand that was once just soley couture. Riccardo lived and breathed life into the brand’s womenswear, menswear and accessories lines, he is regarded as one of the most creative people fashion has ever seen and greatly credited for resurrecting the brand with his dark, sensual and subversive collections over the years.

Tisci was one of the very few luxury designers that embraced diversity when it came to who he hired he always included a range of women and men to wear his clothes – across all ages, backgrounds, ethnicity, religion and gender. He was one of the first designers to cast a transgender model: Lea Twho appeared in the autumn/winter 2010 Givenchy campaign. Tisci was one of the first creative directors to actually engage with the outside world and be able to appeal to the average person which is why Givenchy is so popular and will remain popular for generations to come.

I am going to miss Tsci greatly he was just what Givechy needed, without him I don’t think the french brand would be as poular as it is today, you could say that he came at just the right time. Tisci is selective when it comes to his muses, he was one of the very first designers to appreciate Kim Kardashian, he custom made her wedding dress (talk about friendship goals) following a friendship with her husband Kanye West who loved Riccardo’s menswear and streetwear collections. Before Riccardo Kim Kardashian was looked down upon by so many designers in the industry because of the way in which she became famous but he was able to change their perceptions of her and she is now close friends with almost eveyone who is anyone in the industry.

Riccardo Tisci is loved by so many people around the world, designers, fashion bloggers, critics, models and a ray of celebrities, he’s a very popular guy and will be greatly missed among fashion loves, hopefully he will be back soon but the question is where?

Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH, said in a statement: “The chapter Riccardo Tisci has written with the house of Givenchy over the last 12 years represents an incredible vision to sustain its continuous success, and I would like to warmly thank him for his core contribution to the house’s development.” Tisci’s comments gave nothing away: “I want to thank the LVMH group and monsieur Bernard Arnault for giving me the platform to express my creativity over the years. I now wish to focus on my personal interests and passions.”
